Granby School was built in 1881.  It comprised Infants, Juniors and Seniors.  Boys and girls had a separate education until the 1960s.

 

The school was proud of its football teams and enjoyed great success.

Eleanor Rathbone was associated with the school and the Granby area from the late 19th century.  Upon her return to Liverpool in 1897 she was soon appointed as a manager of Granby School and in 1909 she became the first woman elected to Liverpool City Council when she stood as an Independent candidate in the Granby ward; she remained a member of the Council until 1934. 

 

The first 100 years

The school celebrated 100 years in 1981 and to commemorate this occasion former pupil Leonard Rossiter (aka Rigsby from the popular 1970s TV programme Rising Damp) along with past and current teachers and pupils celebrated this auspicious event.  

 

Paddington Comprehensive

In 1969 Granby Street School changed.  It moved from being infants, juniors and seniors to a Primary school.  The seniors left along with their Head Master Mr W K. Vaux, who became Head Master of a newly built comprehensive school called Paddington Comprehensive in Mount Vernon. Liverpool 7. 

 

Merger of Schools

In 19xx Granby Street School merged with Tiber Street School .  A new school was built along side the old school and is named Kinsgley Community School.

 

Granby Adult Learning Centre

The Granby Adult Learning Centre is situated in the original Granby Street School.  The school remains a prominent site on Granby Street and in the Granby Area.
